My Obsessions | 我的迷戀
|As a girl who likes to create things with the nature organically, the design graduate Tiffany Chang has developed an obsession to collect different little things in the street over the years. She worked with the dry parts of the plant “Queen Lagerstoermia” for her final-year project “My Obsessions”, and then combined them with different metal materials and natural objects to produce various forms of snail accessories. These are often from the collection of objects she found on the ground, including seashells, mother of pearls, pearls, gemstones, walnut wood and sterling silver – her “obsessions”. Despite their fallen state, Tiffany somehow manages to bring a second life to them again through her art and design.
In an attempt to continue Tiffany’s strong connection with the beauty of nature, the「DesignXcel」team found her the Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers Association (HKJJA) for collaboration. At the meeting, Catherine Chan, General Manager of HKJJA, introduced different excess materials of semi-precious stones and gems, wishing to add value and enhance Tiffany’s current works of snails with substances equally cultivated from the earth. With HKJJA’s sponsor of gemstones such as ruby, sapphire and onyx, she was able to cast the silver shells through means of metal forming, giving rise to one piece of delicate snail after another to convey the idea that even small things have their ways to shine and contribute. The piece will also be showcased at the Hong Kong International Jewelry Manufacturers’ Show under the pavilion of Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers’ Association (HKJMA) as an encouragement of artistic creation.
